The OHSF works with Toronto Nature Stewards to eradicate invasive species on and near the club sites. Below is a letter from its lead, Anna Hoad.
A big thank you to everyone who pitches each year to help keep our club grounds beautiful and well-maintained! Your efforts make a huge difference; we couldn’t do it without you.
We have a fantastic opportunity if you’re interested in taking your volunteer work to the next level. The Toronto Nature Stewards offer free training in ecological restoration over the winter. The course consists of five online Zoom classes, with a bit of homework in between. It’s a great way to learn more about caring for natural spaces and connect with others who are passionate about environmental stewardship.
A few of us—Barbara Anderson, Louise Dixon, Heather Broughton, Carol Collison, and myself—went through the program and enjoyed it. We think you will, too! The deadline to sign up is November 15th, and the great news is that the hours you’ve already spent volunteering with us count as prior stewarding experience.
If you decide to join, let Anna or Heather know. We’ll be happy to walk around the grounds with you to give a quick orientation before the snow falls and you dive into the winter homework.
